Omaha Poker

Omaha is a variation of poker; the rules of the game are similar to the rules of Texas Hold’em with some differences. It is an interesting and fun game that is rapidly becoming more and more popular. Omaha poker is played with five cards, called community cards. Omaha poker has two variations, the first one is Omaha High and the second one is Omaha High Low.

Let’s see how a game of Omaha High is played. The rules of the game are pretty easy. Omaha poker is played against other players not against the house like in the majority of other casino games. Each player can be the dealer in case the casino does not supply one for the game. The dealer will always be the last one to act at the poker table. Usually the dealer can be identified by a disk or in other cases by the dealer button. This button rotates to the left, during a poker game and after each hand. Players do not ante in each round like in the case of Stud poker. Players must place a blind bet in the beginning of the game just like in Texas Hold’em poker.

For a hand to start two players must place two blind bets in the pot. The player sitting in the dealer’s left is the one that will post the small blind. The small blind is usually half of the initial bet. The next player places the big blind, bet that equals the minimum bet allowed. The other players do not have to make any kinds of bets. The button rotates then around the poker table.

After the blind bets were made, every player receives four cards from the dealer facing down. After the cards were dealt the first round of betting starts. The first player to place his bet is the one sitting on the left of the player that has made the big blind. The round of betting ends with the player that made the big blind.

Next in the game is “the flop”. The cards that are dealt next are put in the middle of the table facing up. All this cards are called community cards that are going to be used by the players to make their hands. Another betting round follows. After every player placed his wager, it’s time for “the turn”. In this moment the dealer turns the fourth community card on the table. This is the burn. Another betting round goes on. After the round of betting ends, comes “the river”. This is when the dealer burns a card again, this is the fifth and the final community card; followed by the final round of betting.

The game is quickly reaching the end. All the players that are still in the game have to show their hands. Usually in poker terms this phase of the game is called “the showdown”. The highest hand in the game takes the pot money and wins.

As you could see for yourself Omaha poker is a very interesting game; it is simple after you understood the rules completely. And this is only possible with lots of practice. Most online casinos found on the Internet are offering poker players the chance to improve their game skills with free games. If you are a beginner it won’t be such a bad idea to learn some winning strategies with these free practice games and have fun at the same time. Good luck.
